Kensington Raid (June 2024):
San Diego police dismantled an illegal gambling den operating out of a residence above a business in the Kensington neighborhood. Authorities recovered 23 illegal gambling machines, narcotics, paraphernalia, and over $4,700 in cash. Nine individuals were found inside, with two issued misdemeanor citations. Police emphasized that such dens often attract other criminal activities, including drug use and gang-related incidents.
City Heights Operations:
A San Diego man was sentenced to six years in federal prison for operating at least nine illegal gambling dens in and around the City Heights neighborhood. These establishments were equipped with electronic gambling machines and were linked to violent crimes such as homicides, robberies, and drug trafficking. The crackdown led to numerous arrests and the seizure of hundreds of gambling machines, drugs, firearms, and cash.
